Dr. Salmon grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago. She received her Bachelor of Science in Dentistry from University of Illinois and she is a graduate of the UIC College of Dentistry, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).
Immediately after graduating, she worked in the Oral Surgery Department at UIC College of Dentistry to focus on oral surgery techniques. She also worked at a dental office in Aurora, primarily seeing patients on public aid and children from the Mooseheart residential childcare facility.
In 1998, she moved to Chicago and bought well known Dr. Gabriel Freese’s dental practice in Oak Park. Dr. Freese owned a Frank Lloyd Wright home and was very active in the community. In the 90s, there were not a lot of women dentists and this was an amazing opportunity for Dr. Salmon to step into Dr. Freese's practice to be a part of such a wonderful community. Dr. Salmon was a part of the Rotary Club, local Soup Kitchen and active in many events for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
In 2002, she sold her Oak Park practice to move her home to the north suburbs and to work to the northwest side of Chicago where she grew up. She worked at a large group dental office in the Sauganash neighborhood. She became very active with the community mentoring students from her alma mater Resurrection High School and other schools, giving demonstrations at local grade schools including her childhood school Farnsworth. She was very active donating to the Chicago Police and Fireman departments and attending Chicago fundraiser events to support local causes. She became partner in 2008. Dr. Salmon grew up in the area of this dental office with most of her family working for the City of Chicago, so taking care of Chicago’s police officers, fire fighters, school teachers, principals, some aldermen and politicians could only be described as her “coming back home”.
Dr. Salmon has lived on the North Shore since 2002. Her children attended New Trier High School, and she has been very active in the north suburban communities. She has supported The Cradle of Evanston, The Citadel of Lake Forest, Selah Freedom for survivors of human trafficking, Wings-survivors of domestic violence, Project H.O.O.D-help end violence, recidivism, and helps rebuild the communities that are broken.
After the COVID pandemic and Dr. Salmon and her partner decided it was in their best interest to sell the practice and move onto new locations.
Dr. Salmon has had such a strong affiliation with the different organizations in the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff area, it only seemed natural to seek an office in the area. She continues to support the Lake Forest Citadel and some small artists in the area. She is presently showcasing local Artist Sharon Eckland's renowned "Guardian Angels" art in her office. Even you do not need any dentistry, just to stop in and see the Art Gallery she has in her waiting room is a good reason to stop in.
Dr. Salmon was fortunate to be able to join her practice with Dr. Randal Knudson, a local 30-year plus dentist at Lake Bluff Dental Care. They make a great dental team. Dr. Knudson would like to spend more time with his grandchildren, but still do some dentistry. Dr. Salmon will be stepping into his position at the office. Nancy, our wonderful Office Manager and the rest of the staff could not be more thrilled with her joining and leading our dental team into the future.
You will have to look for Dr. Salmon in the area. She could be paddle boarding at Lake Forest or Lake Bluff beaches with her local friends, taking yoga around the corner from her dental office, getting an espresso ristretto at Prairie, eating her favorite Sunny Salad at Bluffingtons, getting her nails done 2 doors from her office, at the post office 2 doors down the other way, getting a lavender sage tea at Hansas, checking out local goods on Fridays Farmer's Market, having some delicious Fois sliders at inovasi or chilling at Maeverys with a Mule and a Ceasar Salad or grilled cheese sandwich. You are bound to see her in the area, but we would love to see you taking good care of your oral health. So stop into our cute and homey office at LAKE BLUFF DENTAL CARE.
